Double victory at the Dolomiti Superfly 2017

After their impressive double victory at the « Bordairrace » in early May at Germany’s Kampenwand, skywalk’s Red Bull X-Alps team pilots also dominated the next big Hike & Fly competition of the 2017 season. Four weeks later, Stephan Gruber and his « Austria 2 » team and Manuel Nübel with « Germany 2 » racked up a solid win in the « Dolomiti Superfly ».

For Stephan Gruber and Manuel Nübel, this was just meant to be a dress rehearsal in the run-up to the 8th Red Bull X-Alps, which begin on June 29 with the prolog at the Fuschlsee in Austria. Their goal was to test their equipment at the first Dolomite Superfly under competitive conditions. Both athletes competed for the first time with their supporters, their team cars and their final selection of equipment.

But Stephan Gruber and Manuel Nübel did not have much time. Skywalk R&D team member Stephan Gruber needed less than 48 hours to complete the 7-day, 270 kilometer course with seven turning points. The route took him from Lévico Terme near Trento, to the Rifugio dal Piaz near Feltre, from there to the heart of the Brenta Dolomites to the Col Rodella near Canazei, the Kronplatz near Bruneck and back to Levico Terme. Shortly after him, Manuel Nübel sailed over the finish line at the beach on the Lago di Lévico.

Both athletes flew our brand-new ultralight XALPS 3, coupled with the 1000 gram « heavy » RANGE XALPS 2 pod harness and the innovative PEPPERCROSS cross-cap reserve chute.

We are thrilled about the second double victory of the 2017 season and would like to congratulate Stephan and Manuel on their success! Weighing it at under 6 kilos, their equipment, which together with the new skywalk backpack was specially developed for the Red Bull X-Alps, appears to be tailor-made for multi-day hike & fly competitions…

…We will see 🙂
